I was coming into work this morning from NE 40th St (and then a right onto 156th and then into the main campus through 36th) doing about 12-13 mph because it was raining and the pavement road was wet. There was one driver in particular who was apparently so annoyed at my cycling that she got out of her car at the traffic light (while both of us were in the left-turning lane) and told me to either get a car or get off the road.

I suppose this is to be expected, but I thought someone working at Microsoft, of all places, would be more tolerant of cyclists, especially on a rainy day. It was also darkly humorous that if I took that person's suggestion of getting off the road, I'd have to either cross 3 lanes to get to the sidewalk on the right-hand side of the road or go across 2 lanes of oncoming traffic (!!!) to get to the sidewalk on that side.

Some people... *rolls eyes*

Most people don't know that bicycles are allowed in normal traffic or that they're classified as motor vehicles. Those people are morons, and if they work at Microsoft, then they go a long way to explaining what Microsoft puts out 8)

Heheh, nice comment from [livejournal.com profile] testing4l above me. ;) You do have rude people who are like that though. But just because it's Microsoft doesn't mean they'd be more tolerant, you know. They're not some godlike company with angels inside.
Unless you were actually breaking some sort of road rule without knowing...

Oh hurry up and make your next post a brainless poll so you can exploit the little green thumb next to your account name already.

The part that gets me is that Microsoft is one of the large companies in Washington that actually recognizes and encourages commuting to work via bicycle (there are bicycle racks in most buildings as well as shower rooms).

But oh well.

Be prepared for a brainless poll

It could be worse.

I have people who tell me to get off the road when I'm in the bike lane. -.-
