It was really interesting~

The teacher started off by asking people their reason for being in the class, and at least half the people said it was because of Korean films/movies/dramas, and one person said it was because of food~ xD He knew how to ask for kimchi, bibimbap and something else ^^;;;; Some of the people there had studied linguistics, and a few had studied Japanese or visited Korea before. One person was learning Korean because his girlfriend was Korean and he wanted to be able to hold conversations better with her parents beyond "hello", "goodbye" and "I'd like some more, please". XD

It was really informative learning about Korean history, culture, and going through the ways of pronouncing the various vowels and consonants (there was also some space for writing on the handouts, but I'm not sure when/if we'll get around to writing Korean characters). The textbooks are interesting, and it seems at least one of them is available in the MS Library for lending.

It was pretty fun seeing the teacher write his name out in Korean, and then towards the end say that his handwriting (for both Korean and English) wasn't that great. ^^;;;

As homework, I need to memorize all the vowels/consonants, and write/say my name in Korean. I don't think that's going to be very easy, but I'll try. :P We also need to start greeting each other in Korean, too. XD

There seem to be a lot more girls than guys in my class

I already taught you how to greet people (that you meet for the first time, at least) ^^;;;;

레니 <-- my name in Korean ^^;;

Your name in Korean... would probably be 다밋... but I'm awful at converting non-Korean to Korean, so that might be a little off, especially with the last syllable... I suppose 다미트 would work, too...

Unfortunately, I never went through that introductory phase in my Japanese class although you already know the reason why. ^^;;; And yeah, you find all sorts of reasons. It happened to me when I took French and German. Of French I still remember some, but probably not enough to properly communicate with a person in that language... German... I only took one year and that one I've definitely forgotten almost completely, I think. I do plan to grab my French books at some point and see if I can refresh my memory... It would be nice to improve my linguistic repertoire. It's embarrassing whenever GD comes to me sometimes and asks me something about French and I have to say I don't remember. (She is taking French classes.)

I'm glad you learned bits about Korean culture and all that and I laughed at what you mention of your teacher admitting in the end that he is not that good. One of the things my Bilingualism teacher has discussed is the modesty in bilinguals as they always try to say they're not very good, when they probably are, for whatever reasons like: accent, thinking they don't have enough vocabulary, etc.

Hope you do your homework... Don't be like me... :p

In my Japanese class, there are more guys than girls. In one of the classes it almost seemed all the girls had decided to not come and I was the only one there... o.o

Pity I don't speak any Korean. There's a new Korean football club here, in case you didn't know, and they speak very little English, so that'd really help my work.

So, what other food have you run out of lately? :P~

I am tempted to say sotong, but I've never eaten it and never want to.

I also miss the usual varieties, though there are some good replacements. :P

I'm quite sure somebody will make quite a violent bit of noise if you actually said it! :P
