I think more than anything, this illustrates the importance of the following:
a) choose passwords wisely and as far as possible, don't re-use passwords
b) Keep your friends close, but your enemies even closer - considering the kinds of posts that she has made in the past, as well as her personality, I'm not surprised that this happened. That doesn't mean it was a good thing, though. Losing 3000 mails = ouch
edit: Apparently wonkytong was hacked by (possibly?) the same person. Rumor has it that a wireless sniffer was active during the bloggercon last week.
