Last trip of 2007 and first trip of 2008

My last trip of 2007 was to Michigan, to visit my cousin and her daughter there. It was a trip that was planned entirely a week before I left, since I didn't know until the last minute whether I could actually go there (I had been asked to work over the period of December 26th - December 31st). However, my manager was nice enough to let me take the 31st off, and so I started planning...
It was really fun seeing my cousin again after 4 years, and my niece was just adorable~

We also went to, among other places, Kalamazoo (hence why I chose this song, lol) and somewhere north of Grand Rapids which I don't really remember the name of right now. :P But what I do remember the most is celebrating New Year's in the middle of a blackout.
No, it wasn't because it snowed too much. But someone was a little drunk and celebrated it too close to a power line. -_-
So, anyway, we had a candlelight New Year's and went to sleep, and when we woke up the next morning (just in time for my flight!) the power was restored. Yay!
Also, since my cousin is going to be there until May, I may go again later when it's not so cold. Who knows, though?

Two days after I got back from Michigan, it was off for another trip that I'd planned for a few weeks, this time to Los Angeles. I'd never been there before, so I was really looking forward to it.
The trip didn't start off that well, though, since my flight to San Francisco was cancelled and I had to take a flight that left Seattle at 6:00 am. I did get to take this picture, though!

Landing at San Francisco was pretty hard, since nearly all the gates were full (there was a storm, and a lot of flights couldn't take off), resulting in my flight being delayed in landing by an hour and a half and landing at the International terminal. It was pretty easy to find
testing4l and
ebugle though.
We spent a few hours in San Jose, including lunch at Pizza Chicago, and began our drive to Los Angeles. There was a lot of rain, and the wind was so strong in places that there were warnings about trailers and campers being on the highway. We made it without any problems though, which I attribute to
testing4l's driving skills. :D
The meetup was at the Griffith Observatory, and on the way up there I saw the famous Hollywood sign, and just had to take a picture of it:

There were surprisingly more people at the meetup than I expected, including a girl who'd signed up for the meetup that morning and had dyed her hair cyan, too. She was remarkably friendly and able to hold her own in conversations, which is always a good thing. ^_^

The observatory was really impressive, and there was a presentation we attended which really bowled me over in terms of the visual aspect. People were seated on their backs, and instead of the screen being in front as normal, the screen was on the ceiling. It was really comfortable, and I felt that sense of awe again that someone does when they first learn about the night sky.
There were other attractions like a pendulum clock, a sundial as well as the beautiful ceiling, and this pair of signs which I found really funny:

All too soon, however, it was time to leave... but I had fond memories of the Griffith Observatory and I definitely want to go there again in future.
The following day,
testing4l took me,
relsqui,
ebugle,
gemlikeflame,
zigdon and several other people around Los Angeles to a restaurant that he'd been to and which he recommended. While it was slightly hard to find the restaurant (I think we got lost thrice?), the food more than made up for it.
Behold, the largest apple pancake I've ever seen. And it was finished by
testing4l and
gemlikeflame, between themselves!

The trip back to Seattle was pretty uneventful, except for the fact that my flight from LAX was delayed by 2 hours, resulting in me waiting at the airport for close to 5 hours for my flight. At least it wasn't cancelled, though... *saw some families whose flights were cancelled and having to deal with tired/hungry/crying children*

And in other unrelated news, last Monday night (the 14th) was the first time I cycled back home from work in the snow and while it was snowing. I'll just say that it was an interesting experience and leave it at that. ^^;; Though I do agree somewhat with
chibi_nasu that snow is pretty to look at, until it starts melting. ^^;;;;
And... happy birthday
meiyo_chan! Hope today is a wonderful day for you ^_^
Tomorrow Today, I go skiing, for only the second time in my life. Hopefully it'll turn out well. ^^;; And I wonder what
itsacz will be doing~ >O
