The first day (22nd October)
Oct. 27th, 2006 12:33 amI left home at around 1:45 pm for the airport, and I already thought I would be late. :P We stopped at the temple to pick up my mother, and I spent a few minutes there to settle myself before we continued to the airport. I had no problems checking in or finding my flight, even though this was the first time I was using an e-ticket (and thus had no physical ticket) and was flying completely on my own. I've obviously flown before, but it's always been with either my family or other debaters in a group.
The flight itself was largely uneventful, although the highlight of the dinner I had was having both Toblerone and Haagen-Dazs ice-cream for dessert. ^_^; Landing wasn't too bad either, although the queue for immigration was quite long and moved somewhat slowly. I had to wait about 10 minutes for my (single) suitcase, but that wasn't too bad. Getting to my hotel wasn't hard either, because the Airport Express train ran directly from the airport to a station which was less than 30 minutes away from my hotel. Unfortunately, I got sidetracked by the requirement of having a valid boarding ticket to get on the free shuttle service from the station (which I later found out was effective only from Nov 6th) and took a taxi to the hotel. It wasn't too bad though, coming in at HK$ 34.50 (about S$7 or US$ 4.50) including a $5 surcharge for luggage.
What I didn't expect though was that I had to pay a HK$500 deposit when checking in because I didn't have a credit card. I had the money (approximately S$ 100), but that requirement would seriously impact my plans of doing any significant sight-seeing while I was there. I didn't blame myself too much for it though, since I can always fly there again (hopefully when I have a credit card :P). Still though, it would've been nice to be able to visit, for example, the Peak and take some photos there. Oh well.
I took one photograph in my room while waiting for the dinner I'd ordered through room service (sweet and sour pork with rice in tomato sauce and a slice of blueberry cheesecake), so it's probably not very clear. It's still a photograph though, for those who wanted to see one. ^^;
( I wonder what I was looking at... )
I'll post more about the second and third days soon.
