Personally, I think that both positions are wrong.

A relationship between two people shouldn't focus entirely on the physical aspects (how fast can I get you into bed) and should include some form of emotional support (perhaps a deeper level, like understanding where the other person is coming from, what are their expectations and how you should meet them; what do you want to achieve from the relationship?).

On the other hand, I don't think people should necessarily get into relationships just because they want to get married but that marriage (or thoughts of it) should follow after being in a relationship for some time, and even then the mere thought of it doesn't always demand action. It's perfectly acceptable (IMO, at least) for two people to be in a relationship and never think about getting married at all, if that's what they're happy with.

I certainly don't think that parents should have the right to choose who their children are dating, as opposed to letting their children know if they feel uneasy about a particular relationship.
