The great packing operation was done... in half an hour

I'm amazed it proceeded so smoothly! And they were really efficient at everything: assembling the boxes, wrapping the items, packing them, weighing them, and transporting them upstairs to their lorry... *swoons*

The only minor problem was about the weight... Apparently during the pre-move survey they'd estimated I had 32 kg (70.5 pounds) of items to carry, but during the actual weighing I had 75.3 kg (165.3 pounds), which needed a confirmation phone call to verify that I wasn't going to be over the limit. But that was sorted out pretty quickly. :P

My room feels so much emptier now ^^;;; It'll be even emptier after I finish packing my suitcase which I should be doing instead of posting on LJ.

But... I leave you for now with a picture of a huge gecko that died the day after..., and two pictures of what I packed (I don't have any pictures of the boxes, unfortunately). And some YUOisms...

The gecko was lying on a box on my mother's dressing table. The following day, it moved to her table (after being shooed off), and the day after, it was dead...

Yes, this picture is slightly blurred... I fail at keeping a steady hand And apparently I had 66 CDs to be packed. ^^;

I found this one hilarious~

That's quite a big difference between the estimated and actual weigh-ins ^^;;

The lizard had gotten it's tail cut off at some point ^^;

[identity profile] nyankoframe.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yup ^^;;; When they did the estimate, I didn't have the wok, the frypan or (most importantly) the mortar, and those all have to be packed quite thoroughly ^^;; And the estimate didn't include my clothes either, and perhaps the books were heavier than they thought ^^;;

Ah~ Thanks for pointing that out! I never noticed it at all, and I saw it in person ^^;;

Yes, I like how they used tons and tons of paper to wrap all my stuff. Of course, it could be a huge waste of paper too ^^;; I think it's recycled though. Only my grandparents and their generation use mortar and pestles. I haven't seen a real one in ages.

Yeah, I think it's recycled as well. On K C Dat (the company doing the pack and load in Singapore)'s emails and letters, they always say "Care for Green", and looking at the paper, it seemed pretty much recycled. ^^;;

I don't know about your grandparents, but it's pretty common among our (Sri Lankan, not Singaporean) culture. :P I've helped my mother over the last few years by pounding chilli, garlic and ginger to make a spicy seasoning for mee goreng, among other things. ^^;;;

Cool! I see lizards around the house every day, but I've never seen a gecko! Poor thing. The girls saw the pic and started to say: "Lizard! Lizard!"

[identity profile] nyankoframe.livejournal.com 2007-02-05 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, at first, my mother thought it was a lizard too because of its size, but it was hugging the ground (which lizards don't do). :P
