News on the laptop front

Apparently only the hard disk needs to be replaced.. but given the condition of the laptop, I'd have to buy a new battery as well.

The laptop doesn't have Centrino, built-in WiFi or efficient battery use, so I'd still like to get a new one.. Thinking of the Acer TravelMate 4103WLCi from campus (S$ 2188), specs here

That looks pretty good. :) I hope you can get one that you like and will suit your needs.

We just got a model from Acer's Centrino series in at work, and judging by the way people have been gawking over it, I'd say go for it if you can afford it. The only drawback with the Acer models is that they tend to (externally) be really flimsy, and just don't seem half as sturdy as a lot of other brands... otherwise they're nicely priced and stand the test of time. Hell, mine broke in half and it still kind of works. :P
