Sometimes I wonder where my dreams come from...

This one came when I was taking a short (about 2 hour) nap in the evening because it'd rained earlier and I felt sleepy.

I was in the household of a very rich Chinese towkay (millionaire) which also doubled up as his family business. This would be somewhere around the late 19th century (say 1870-1890s?) in China. The family was large, as the towkay had 4 sons and each of them had their own families and stayed in the towkay's house. Relations between everyone seemed harmonious... or were they?

The towkay's house was so large that it spanned several li (acres) and had underground tunnels linking the different parts of the complex. One particular tunnel went from the business area to the family area (where they slept, ate meals, etc.). The tunnel was long and curved, and not well-lit, and it had a lot of narrow crevices along the way because it was carved out from the rock.

Recently, strange things had been happening in that tunnel. People reported strange noises, seeing shadows without a form or vice versa, feeling something pass by them as they walked down the tunnel, lights flickering, and other kinds of things. The towkay's family were not particularly bothered by this, but their workers were scared to the point where they refused to use that tunnel any more. The towkay decided to investigate and asked two of his sons to check it out.

One day, the towkay was in his room when a servant came running to him bearing two small parcels. Inside each parcel was a head and a pair of slippers. As the towkay stared at the parcels, he recognized them as those of the two sons whom he'd asked to investigate, as well as the slippers they usually wore. His face drained of expression but he didn't faint. Instead, he organized a few of the servants as well as his other two sons and their wives, and gave everyone pitchforks, parangs (a long, sharp blade) and a strong flashlight.

The party set out down the corridor until they came to a bend in the tunnel. When they shone their lights, they saw something dripping slowly into a pool on the ground. It was red in colour and seemed to be coming from the ceiling. One of the towkay's daughters-in-law fainted and had to be carried back, but the others walked slowly towards the pool. Just then, something rolled out from a corner of the tunnel. It was a bundle consisting of a pair of arms and legs, and a body, but no head.

Everyone screamed, except the towkay, and then they all saw a pair of red eyes in the distance glow...

I woke up at this point, and I was so scared of what was happening, even though it was only a dream, that my heart was literally beating like crazy and I was seriously worried. I definitely haven't read (or seen, and so on) anything that even talks about this kind of thing, and so what I can think of to try and rationalize why I might have had this dream is that either my mind stitched together pieces of other things I'd seen or read (such as Silent Hill or Dean Koontz's "The Vision") to form a rich tapestry, or else... I might have seen something that really did happen in real life in the past (and in which I might even have been present?).

*tries to find things to do to erase the memory from his mind*
